On May 23–24, the 7th NRIEDL, hosted by Xidian University (XDU), took place on the Xidian campus. Thirty-six debate teams from ten universities across the Northwest region gathered to showcase the critical thinking skills and global perspectives of today’s young students. XDU fielded eight teams, which won the championship and secured one first prize, three second prizes, and three third prizes. With these outstanding results, our overall performance ranked among the top and set a new record.

During the two-day, five-round round-robin tournament, the teams engaged in fierce competition on a diverse range of topics, including current social issues and philosophical debates. Drawing on their solid knowledge base and excellent verbal skills, the debaters demonstrated outstanding abilities in both argumentation and rebuttal.

On the afternoon of May 24, the four teams that advanced to the finals faced off in a showdown. The final debate centered on “The Pros and Cons of Relying on AI Technology in Education.” After 20 minutes of impromptu preparation, the debaters engaged in a thrilling on-stage showdown. At the subsequent closing ceremony and awards ceremony, the winners of each category were announced one by one, bringing the event to a perfect conclusion.
