“Bioelectronics—From Exploratory Research to Medical Translation”by Academician John A. Rogers

On April 11, Academician John A. Rogers of Northwestern University (USA) was invited to visit Xidian University for an academic exchange and delivered a lecture titled “Bioelectronics—From Exploratory Research to Medical Translation.” President Gao Xinbo met with Academician John A. Rogers. Faculty and students from the university actively participated in the lecture and the subsequent thematic discussion session.

During the discussion session, students actively asked questions based on their own academic and research experiences. They engaged in an in-depth exchange with Academician Rogers on topics such as the convergence of flexible electronics and smart materials, pathways for translating basic research findings into practical applications, and how young researchers can conduct high-level interdisciplinary innovative research. Academician Rogers provided detailed answers to each question and, drawing on his own research experience, encouraged the students to stay at the forefront of academia, address national needs, adopt a problem-oriented approach, embrace interdisciplinary integration, and continuously enhance their innovative capabilities and research literacy.

Expert Profile:

John A. Rogers is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Inventors, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Royal Society; he is also a professor at Northwestern University and an internationally renowned materials scientist, physicist, and chemist. He is at the forefront of global research in flexible electronics and wearable biomedical devices. He has published approximately 1,000 papers and holds about 100 patents as a co-inventor, of which more than 70 have been licensed and put into practical use.
