Alumnus Wang Zhonglin Elected Fellow of National Academy of Inventors

Time: Dec 27, 2022

Alumnus Wang Zhonglin, enrolled in 1978 at Xidian University, was elected Fellow of National Academy of Inventors (NAI) of the United States, according to the list of 2022 NAI Fellows announced on December 8. Prof. Wang is a top nano scientist and physicist renowned for his research on material science and energy technologies.

The NAI honored Prof. Wang for his discovery and breakthroughs in the development of the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). He has established the principles and technical roadmap of obtaining mechanical energy from the environment and biological systems to power mobile sensors. He is also the inventor of self-powered sensors and the third-generation semiconductors based on piezoelectric electronics and piezoelectric optoelectronics.

His election this time shows the acknowledgement from the American technological innovation and industry community of the significance of his groundbreaking work on nano energy and nano systems in the field of industrial application and technological revolution. This formal recognition of him as an inventor as well as a scientist validates his research vision of " focusing on both theory and practical application".
