(By ZHAI LIANGKAI) On June 23, 2020, Xidian University organized the Global Competence Forum for Young Elites 2020. Thirty selected young speakers from 24 universities gathered online to share their ideas on “Role of the Youth in Post-Pandemic Era”.

Professor Zongkai Yang, President of Xidian University, addressed the forum. By introducing Xidian’s practice in dealing with COVID-19 and transforming teaching mode from on the spot to online education, from on-campus to off-campus model, Professor Yang called on young people to entwine with the global trend, set mission to build a better future and upgrade capability of solving global issues to build a community of shared future.

Thirty young student representatives from universities including the University of Chicago, Northeastern University, University of Toronto, etc. shared their keen understanding and touching experiences regarding the roles of global youth, which consists of two panels convenient for attendees in different time zones.
“We have raised more than 1.5 million yuan through months of efforts.” Xiaoman Guo, a doctoral student at University of Toronto, Canada shared her story of a donation collection for medical workers in Hubei Province, China.
Ruishi Zhang, a student from the University of Chicago, USA said in his speech, “Chinese students and Chicago local residents helped each other by donating medical supplies as the pandemic developed.” He proposed that international cooperation be the key to addressing global issues.
“I’m a common person. But I will try my best to help people.” Woro Januarti, a PhD student from Wuhan University, fought rumors and the virus in her local community in Indonesia through scientific knowledge education among grassroots.
This forum, as a pivotal component of the 2nd International Weeks held at Xidian University, aims to provide a platform for the youth to discuss their responsibilities in solving global issues concerning environment, public heath, resources, security, poverty, etc. “I have participated in the forum twice and this year’s theme is quite in time,” said Oleksandr Shevchuk, a PhD student who are now studying at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. “It is a great opportunity to know more people who inspire young generation to change our world.”
