On the morning of April 24, the second École Polytechnique Sino-French Engineer Education Seminar was held in the 210 auditorium of the Administrative Building in XDU’s new campus. Claude-Gilles DUSSAP (Director General of the Union of École Polytechnique), Guy REUMONT (President of Polytech’Lille), Alexandre CAMINADA (President of Université de Nice), Philippe GOURBESVILLE (former President of Université de Nice), and Yin Na (General Manager of the École Polytechnique EU Scholarship Program) attended the seminar, as well as representatives from 9 universities including Tianjin University, Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and China Ocean University. Corporate representatives from Huawei, Intel, and iSoftStone also took part in it, with directors of the Undergraduate School, the Division of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the Graduate School, as well as college teachers and student representatives, reaching a total of 200 conferees. The guests had dialogues regarding ways to promote friendly cooperation between XDU and École Polytechnique, to determine the education mode of engineers, and to agree on the direction of future development. The seminar was held by the Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering and inaugurated by the Vice-president Shi Guangming.

Shi expressed sincere welcome to the distinguished guests. He said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic ties. He pointed out that both universities are striving to educate talents in innovative ways. This seminar bears great significance in that it provides a chance for us to work together to develop insights regarding engineering education and to broaden the scope of cooperation.

Claude-Gilles DUSSAP and Guy REUMONT introduced the basic situation of the French engineering education. Alexandre CAMINADA amazed us with a report on how to cultivate research and innovative spirit in great engineers in the new era. Philippe GOURBESVILLE illustrated the overview of School-Enterprise Cooperation in Engineer Education, emphasizing the contribution to developing quality resources by a market-oriented education mode and how to achieve just that. Liao Guisheng demonstrated the characteristics, faculty, and achievements of the School of Electronic Engineering and its China-French cooperation project. He attached vital importance to and expressed strong confidence in the future of the bilateral cooperation in talents education and research development.

In the afternoon, round table group discussions were held to discuss three topics, namely “French Engineers Committee CTI Certification”, “the Establishment of an Inter-university Research Institute”, and “School-Enterprise Cooperation in Engineer Education”. All four French officials and representatives from domestic universities, as well as enterprises, shared their experience in related fields. Last but not least, Liao Guisheng stressed the profound significance of China-French cooperation projects and pledged a concrete effort towards the development of education.
