Introduction

The Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Program in Big Data Management and Application is jointly offered by Xidian University and Virginia Tech (USA). Approved for enrollment in 2022, it plans to admit 120 students annually. Building on the multifaceted practices of China and the United States in artificial intelligence and digital entrepreneurship, and addressing the needs of the big data industry and sustainable development, the program leverages the strong teaching and research resources of both universities in business information technology and innovation/entrepreneurship management. It aims to cultivate students' abilities in diverse problem-solving, cross-cultural thinking, quantitative data analysis and application, intelligent business decision-making, and innovation/entrepreneurship. Applicants are selected based on merit after their Gaokao scores meet the minimum admission control line for the corresponding batch in the province/municipality/region where the enrollment plan is allocated. Except for ideological and political courses, physical education, and general education courses, all courses in this program are taught in English. Over one-third of the core professional courses are taught by foreign faculty. Candidates who took a language other than English as their foreign language subject in the national entrance examination are advised to consider their application carefully.

Studies & Degree

The program follows a four-year duration with a "3+1" model (three years at Xidian University, one year at Virginia Tech). Students who complete all four years of study and meet the degree conferral conditions will be awarded the undergraduate graduation certificate and the Bachelor of Management degree in Big Data Management and Application from Xidian University, as well as the Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Technology Management from Virginia Tech.

Prosperous Future

Graduates can enter the workforce directly. Employment destinations are primarily big data companies, e-commerce enterprises, internet finance companies, information research institutions and enterprises, and relevant government departments, engaging in work such as big data analysis, intelligent business decision-making, data management and governance, and data security management. Graduates can also apply for domestic Master's programs. Outstanding students during their studies may, according to relevant Xidian University regulations, obtain the qualification for recommendation for exemption from the entrance examination to pursue Master's degrees at top-tier domestic universities, or apply for further studies at leading overseas universities or those in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

Tuition Fee and Others

Based on educational cost accounting and approved by the Ministry of Education, the annual tuition fee for students during the first three years of study in China is 68,000 RMB. For the fourth year of study in the USA, students pay a tuition fee of 6,000 RMB per year to Xidian University, while also paying tuition and fees to Virginia Tech according to its international student standard for that year. For the 2025-2026 academic year, the estimated tuition and fees for the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters for the Virginia Tech Sino-US Cooperative Education Program are approximately 52,000 USD (US university tuition and fees are reassessed annually and generally increase). During the study period in the USA, students are responsible for insurance, accommodation, textbooks, and personal living expenses, estimated at around 20,000 USD.
