Hangzhou Institute of Technology

Hangzhou Institute of Technology is jointly established by Xidian University and Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou. Officially launched in 2021, it serves as a secondary unit of Xidian University and is also an independent legal entity. Situated along the picturesque Qiantang River, Hangzhou Institute of Technology is located at No.177 Lüxue Road, Ningwei Sub-district, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China. The campus covers an area of 26 hectares, with 22 buildings and a construction area of 716,000 square meters. Committed to the concept of openness and collaboration, Hangzhou Institute of Technology actively makes its public supporting facilities open to the society and enterprises, aiming to establish a model of future industrial science and technology park that integrates education, science and technology, and talents.

Hangzhou Institute of Technology has created a three-tier system of“Institute-Research Center-PI Team”, with Principal Investigator (PI) teams serving as the basic units for talent training, scientific research, and technology commercialization. It has established six research centers in Industrial Software, Advanced Information, Integrated Circuits, Advanced Vision, Automotive Electronics, and Satellite Internet, comprising over 60 PI teams. Guided by the six core research directions, Hangzhou Institute of Technology offers specialized programs in New-Generation Electronic Information Technology, Communication Engineering, Computer Technology, Optoelectronic Information Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, Network and Information Security and Mechanical Engineering, focusing on promoting the cultivation of high-level applied talents and training outstanding engineers that meet the needs of the new era.

Hangzhou Institute of Technology has over 2,000 faculty members and students, more than 300 full-time researchers and over 210 double-employed mentors, of which there are 43 national-level talents and 21 provincial/ministerial-level talents. Talent development have yielded remarkable outcomes, with achievements including 43 national-level prizes in top-tier disciplinary competitions, the publication of 285 academic papers, the generation of 733 patents, the submission of 422 technical reports, and 154 competition awards. Hangzhou Institute of Technology has also established Postgraduate Innovation Fund, with a total of 93 projects approved for support. As for the graduate prospect, the employment rate of the graduates achieved almost 100%, with nearly 45% are at Fortune Global 500 companies.

Dedicated to serving “Double first-class initiatives” of Xidian University and contributing to the economic and social development, Hangzhou Institute of Technology focuses on talent cultivation, technological innovation, and talent aggregation to build a development system of integration between industry and education that unites “education, science and technology, and talents”. Since its establishment in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou Institute of Technology has secured approvals for multiple high-level innovation platforms, including: the National “Industrial Software Ecological Common Platform” Pilot, the Provincial Key Academician Workstation, the Postdoctoral Workstation, the New Research and Development Institution, the Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for Industrial Data Element Circulation and Security Governance, the Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Analog Integrated Circuits, the Hangzhou Concept Validation Center for Intelligent Automotive Electronics of Xidian University, the Hangzhou Engineering Research Center for Industrial Internet Security and Intelligent Technologies, etc.

Leveraging Hangzhou’s strategic geographic advantages, Hangzhou Institute of Technology has established 42 joint laboratories (innovation centers) in collaboration with leading enterprises such as Hikvision and Geely Auto. Notably, the “Pilot Digital Profile System”, co-developed with Loong Air, was showcased at the Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE). Hangzhou Institute of Technology also supported T-Breaker’s “High-Voltage DC Relay Testing Platform” successfully selected in Zhejiang Province’s 2023 First-of-its-Kind Equipment Certification List. As of the end of 2024, Hangzhou Institute of Technology has signed 558 contracts and agreements totaling RMB 490 million in funding, leveraging an additional RMB 630 million in corporate R&D investments through these partnerships. These achievements underscore its active integration into the Yangtze River Delta’s regional innovation network, driving collaborative development across the region.

Hangzhou Institute of Technology has actively promoted high-level international academic cooperation and exchanges. It has invited more than 100 distinguished overseas experts to carry out academic lectures, among whom there are over 10 fellows and academicians. Faculty and students have participated in premier international conferences on more than 80 occasions, with over 60 students engaging in high-level international exchange programs. Currently, Hangzhou Institute of Technology employs one long-term foreign faculty member and oversees one international academic journal. Additionally, it has facilitated the signing of two cooperation agreements between Xidian University and overseas universities and institutes, further strengthening global academic ties.
