The School of Optoelectronic Engineering was founded in 2022. It originated from the Department of Radio Physics founded in 1960, which offered the first laser technology and infrared technology programs in China. The School consists of the Department of Laser Technology, the Department of Infrared Technology, the Department of Photoelectric Information, the Department of Photoelectric Instrument, the Computational Imaging Research Institute, and the Photoelectric Technology Experiment Center. There are 1300+ undergraduates, 240+ postgraduates and 70+ PhD candidates at present.
The School currently has the first-level discipline of Optical Engineering qualified of granting doctoral and master degrees, the second-level discipline of Physical Electronics; the two national first-class undergraduate programs of Electronic Science and Technology, and Photoelectric Information Science and Engineering, coupled with two pilot undergraduate classes involving teaching reform and the "Education and Training Scheme 2.0 for Excellent Engineers", respectively. The School also holds one base of "Disciplinary Innovation and Talent Introduction Plan of Colleges and Universities", two bases of state-level practical education, two provincial-level demonstration centers of experimental teaching, and one provincial-level innovative pilot zone of talent-training mode.
Devoted to cultivating talents and promoting scientific research, the School has been awarded over 40 national, provincial, and ministerial prizes for science & technology achievements and for education and teaching achievements. Among our alumni are a large number of industry leaders, technical backbones and successful entrepreneurs, including Luo Qingming (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, president of Hainan University), and Zhao Wei (president of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi’an Branch). The School of Optoelectronic Engineering of Xidian University was, is, and will be dedicated to talent cultivation, academic development, scientific & technological research in optoelectronics.
