School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology

The School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology (AMN), positioned as a research school, aims at the major national demands and international frontier research. AMN relies on Xidian’s advantages in Electronics and Information, and focuses on the research of advanced materials and nanotechnology, to yield a group of theories and key technological achievements with international influenceand to form an influential scientific research team in the field of materials, by which the status in the fundamental and applied research areas at Xidian University is promoted. Currently, there are three undergraduate majors in AMNMaterials Science & Engineering, Applied Chemistry and Nanomaterials and Technology; two master majorsMaterials Physics & Chemistry and Materials Science; a full-time professional master majorMaterials Engineering; and a doctorate majorMaterials Science & Engineering. The First President of AMN is held by Prof. Yue Hao, who is the CAS Academician, and the Honorary President of AMN is Prof. Zhonglin Wang, who is the CAS Foreign Academician and Academician of the American Academy of Sciences


There are now 66 full-time teachers in AMN, including 8 professors and 29 associate professors. Among the faculty, over 97 % of them have doctorate degree and 42 % owns oversea study experience. Presently, there are one CAS Academician in the school, one New Century Excellent Talent of Ministry of Education, one Huashan Young Scholar of Xidian, one Academic Elite Talent of Huashan Scholars, one Ethics Model of Shaanxi Province and three Famous Teaching Teachers of Xidian.


AMN persists in the cultivation opinion of good foundation, wide subject, strong ability, high quality and inter-disciplinary talents, and pays attention to the education of fundamental knowledge and innovative ability for students. The school has created a positive environment pursuing the academic and excellence, and established the platform of academic communication, combining all the dominant resources. The interesting study is advanced ceramic materials and applications, new energy materials and devices, thin-films materials and devices, and nanomaterials and devices at AMN, in which the whole system including the material design and preparation, device process development as well as the applications in the electronics, energy sources, chemical engineering and biology is well formed. Currently, there are two Shaanxi Province Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, five College-Enterprise Cooperation Practice Bases, one Simulation Experimental Teaching Center and five Open Laboratories.


AMN has built an “Advanced Materials Analysis and Testing Center”, which has a variety of the equipments and instruments for materials growth and device fabrication, structural characterization and property measurement, including Atomic Layer Deposition (PEALD-150A), Magnetron Sputtering (Kurt J Lesker Company), Controllable Atmosphere Furnace, X-ray diffractometer (XRD, Bruker D8 Advance), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM, JEOL JEM-2100F), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM, JEOL JSM-6360LV), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM, JSM-7800F), Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS, NORAN System SIX Model 300), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD, Brukere-Flash1000), Thermo X  Fluorescence Spectrometer, Zahner Photoelectric-chemical Testing System, Fluorophotometer (Hitachi F-7000), FT-IR Spectrometer (IRPrestige-21), UV-Vis-NIR Spectrophotometer (Jasco V-570), Vector Network Analyzer (AV3618), etc. These equipments and instruments provide high level research condition for the cultivation of innovative researchers.
