As the "eyes" and "ears" of communication equipment, antennas are indispensable to virtually all devices, from the vast BeiDou Satellite Navigation System down to the humble smartphone. Xidian University was one of the first in China to establish programs in microwaves and antennas. As early as 1953, Academician Bi Dexian at XDU translated China's first authoritative work on antennas. In 1992, Xidian University established one of China's first State Defense Key Laboratories dedicated to antenna and microwave technology research. Over the years, XDU’s antenna research has developed distinct features and advantages, yielding significant achievements such as China's first antenna near-field measurement system; the multi-coupler system for China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning; and a super electromagnetic simulation computing system. The diverse types of antennas developed have been applied across various sectors of the national economy and defense construction, making important contributions to the development of China's communications industry.
Electronic equipment finds extensive application in fields such as communication, detection, navigation, and countermeasures. Electromechanical engineering focuses on the design, manufacturing, and protection theories and technologies of this equipment, where mechanical structures ensure electrical performance. Over the past decade, XDU has systematically established field coupling models for electromagnetic, displacement, and thermal fields in electronic equipment. It revealed the impact mechanism of nonlinear structural factors on electrical performance, and proposed a multi-domain coupling theory integrating structure, control, and information. It has pioneered breakthroughs in CAD/CAE digital modeling and heterogeneous collaboration technologies, independently developing China's first comprehensive high-performance electromechanical design platform for electronic equipment. This platform synthesizes electromagnetic, structural, thermal, control, and information technologies, enabling China to leapfrog in high-performance electronic equipment and enhanced industry innovation capabilities
