Established in 1931, Xidian University (XDU) is an international public comprehensive university in Xi’an, China. XDU dedicates primarily to electronics and information research and education, with an integration of a wide range of academic subjects covering engineering, science, humanities and social sciences.
XDU is funded by Project 211 and Project 985 Innovation Platform for Superiority Subject, and is enlisted in the China “Double First-class Initiatives”. As an essential base of IT talent cultivation and high-level scientific research innovation in China, XDU is one of the first 35 universities having National Pilot School of Software Engineering and one of the first 9 universities having National Pilot School of Microelectronics. The university has been making great efforts to upgrade itself into a world first-class university featuring in electronics and information science.
Positioning itself as a university with firm roots in western China, XDU is located in the southern suburbs of the city of Xi’an, a city with rich history, diverse cultures, and great innovations. XDU has two campuses, with a total area of 3,944.8 acres and a building area of 1.5906 million square meters.

XDU deepens the promotion of gathering first-class faculty and is committed to building an essential national information talent center and innovation highland. XDU currently have more than 2,800 full-time teachers, including over 800 doctoral supervisors and over 1,900 master’s supervisors. XDU devotes itself to cultivating and utilizing outstanding scientists, currently the university has three academicians. A large number of first-class scientific and technological specialists have gathered in the university, including 357 national-level talents, 304 provincial and ministerial level talents, and 18 national-level innovation teams, and 57 provincial-level innovation teams. XDU currently have one “National Model Teacher”, six national-level teaching personnel and six national-level teaching teams.
XDU current has 39,440 full-time students, including 22,750 undergraduate students and 16,690 postgraduate students (13,231 in master programs, and 3,459 in PhD programs).
Quality Education and Achievements
XDU focuses on the field of electronics and information, striving to build a first-class discipline system with “Solid Foundation; Strong Capacity; Long Persistence; and Distinctive Features”. The university currently has 28 secondary schools and research institutions. XDU has 2 national “Double First Class” disciplines of Information and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Technology; 2 national first level key disciplines; 7 national second level key disciplines; 19 PhD degree authorized disciplines; 29 master’s degree authorized disciplines; and 15 postdoctoral research stations.
The university has 14 national-level featured majors, 35 national “first-class” undergraduate major construction points, 45 national “first-class” courses, 6 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 3 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers. Currently XDU has received 12 national-level teaching achievement awards. As an important achievement of XDU’s quality education, the employment rates of undergraduate and graduate students have always remained at around 95% and 99% for many years.
