School of Mechano-electronic Engineering

SMEE can be traced back to the Department of Radar Technology founded in 1960, which was renamed as the Department of Electronic Mechanism and the School ofElectronic Mechanism in 1979 and 1994, respectively. In 1999, the School of Electronic Mechanism, the Department of Detection and Instrumentation, and three teaching and research offices from the School of Electronic Engineering(Industrial Automation, Automatic Control, and Electrical Technology) merged into SMEE.

SMEE incorporates Departments of Electronic Mechanism, Industrial Design, Automatic Control, Electrical Engineering, Observation & Control Engineering and Instrumentation, and Electronic Packaging, the Institute of Mechano-electronic Science and Technology, the Key Laboratory of Electronic Equipment Structural Design of the Ministry of Education (MOE), the National “111” Project Base for Electronic Equipment Electromechanical Coupling Theory and Technology, and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Comprehensive Engineering Training.

SMEE has 190 faculty and staff members, of whom there are 2 academicians, 2 professors of the“Thousand Talents Foreign Experts Program”, 2 distinguished professor and chair professor of “Cheung Kong Scholar Program”, 1 chief scientist of the Major State Basic Research Development Program of China (973Program), 5 professors of the “New Century Outstanding Talents Program” of MOE,3 German “Humboldt” Scholars, 3 members of Teaching Guidance Committee of MOE,1 provincially renowned teacher, 27 Ph. D supervisors, 32 professors, and 88 associate professors. SMEE currently has 2649 undergraduates and 984 postgraduates (826 master degree candidates and 158 doctorate degree candidates).

SMEE has 6 bachelor programs, 11 master programs, 7 second-level disciplines authorized to offer doctorate degree, 3 first-level disciplines authorized to offer doctorate degree, and 3 post-doctoral research centers. The Advanced Electromechanical Engineering is the key discipline to be constructed in 2011 Collaborative Innovation plan,985 Project Innovation Platform and Project 211.

Inrecent years, SMEE has undertaken a great number of research projects including international projects, projects sponsored by 973 Program and 863 Program, key projects and key grant projects of the Natural Science Foundation of China(NFSC), with remarkable outcomes including 3 second-prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 10 Science and Technology Awards at ministerial and provincial level, 1 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, and 2 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nominated Awards.

Adapted to the trend of industrialization driven by informatization, SMEE is striving to make achievements in teaching, research, discipline upgrading and talent cultivation, and build itself into a research-oriented and internationalized school.
